2010 Scholarships winners announced

Raffles College of Design and Commerce has announced the recipients of the four scholarships to study either Design or Arts (Visual Communication) degrees starting this year.

They are:

Bachelor of Arts (Visual Communication)

  • Full-fee scholarship - Kate Doolan of Narrabeen, Photography major
  • Half-fee scholarship - Alexandra Malpas of Cabarita, Moving Image (Film and TV) major

Bachelor of Design

  • Full-fee scholarship - Jesse Pracey of Harrington Park, Graphic Design major
  • Half-fee scholarship - Elise Gibson of Pt Claire, Fashion Design major

The scholarships are currently valued at $55,540 for full tuition fees and $27,770 for half tuition fees.

Kate Doolan was thrilled with her win, saying, “I’ve been studying photography since Year 9, a lot of which has been conceptual. But I’d really love to get into fashion photography which is why I was so interested in Raffles College – I’ve never had such readily available access to a studio and equipment before.”

Kate says she has wanted to study photography at Raffles College since hearing about the course at a Year 10 careers market. “I’m really excited to be studying at Raffles College,” says Kate. “The extra funding will help pay for course equipment and not having to worry about my ATAR results is such a relief.”

Jesse Pracy says he will major in Graphic Design which will open up opportunities for jobs in website design, print design, editorial design, illustration and advertising. “I’m so excited and very overwhelmed,” says Jesse.

“Graphic design is a passion of mine which has grown over the last few years because it combines my interests in both IT and art. I’m really looking forward to learning new skills, growing what I can already do and learning specifically about print media,” he says.

CEO of Raffles College, Isaac Ng, said the scholarships offered invaluable opportunities to prospective students who may not have the means to fund their tertiary education. “The scholarships attract exceptionally talented students to our college community and provide those students with a unique education experience and strong career prospects via Raffles College’s quality degree programs.”

Applications for the 2011 round of scholarships will be open for applications mid-year.

Emma Kendal says that a huge benefit for her studying the digital multimedia major has been the choice of study options. She says "my main area of interest is web design and I've been able to combine my drawing and creative skills that appeal to both sides of me. The practical nature of the course with major projects and internships was an attraction to the Degree. Our teachers are great as they help prepare you before you jump in the deep end. The knowledge and skills gained here will give me a better chance of getting a job with a future employer."
