Alumni

Hi and welcome back

If you've graduated from Raffles College of Design and Commerce in Sydney (previously known as KvB Institute of Technology), we'd love to hear from you.

We have thousands of alumni all around the globe and we think that's a great social and professional network for you to join. There are already some local chapters in place and many more still to start up.

There are other advantages as well. For example, did you know that we've recently launched a new Master of Design and that our alumni get a substantial discounted rate? Through your connection to us, you can continue to benefit in other ways as well.

RCDC Alumni Association Kicks Off

2008 meeting of RCDC Alumni Association

The first Alumni Association meeting for Raffles and KvB graduates was recently held at Raffles College of Design and Commerce.

CEO Professor Ron Newman warmly welcomed graduates over drinks and nibbles and pledged the College’s full support for the Association.

Daniel Williams, the new Alumni President elect, explained what Alumni is about and why it is so important to stay in touch with the Alumni Association. He reminded us that Alumni Association is run by Alumni for Alumni.

The welcome was followed by an open and vigorous discussion about the future of the Alumni, what graduates would like to do and how they would like to do it. Lots of ideas were generated.

These include:

  • creating a strong network of friends and business partners
  • an Alumni website
  • a new Alumni image
  • be more active with Facebook and other social networks, consolidating groups where possible
  • involve currents students and peers
  • create contact database (to stay in touch…)
  • organise reunions, trips and party meetings
  • Alumni representation at Raffles College events
  • create a network supporting new graduates and other alumni in their search for jobs • have fund raisers for the Association;
  • organise shows, exhibitions for Alumni members;
  • join “market day” at RCDC where RCDC Alumni members can sell their work

Everyone had a chance to take part in a discussion at our informal meeting. We had such a good time that instead of the scheduled 1 1/2 hour meeting we stayed together for almost 3! We hope to meet again soon and in a bigger numbers. Stay tuned……

A career as a film director is Andrew Marshall's ambition. He says "I was drawn to the Degree where I could major in moving image because it's a broad program and covers all aspects of film making. The course is very hands on, challenging and lots of fun. We get involved with camera shoots, research what's been done before and apply it to what we're doing. It's very interesting and rewarding. It's fantastic being part of an enthusiastic group of students and having inspiring lecturers. They are not afraid to challenge you – you get great feedback with constructive and positive criticism."
